Anthropic has announced plans to commit 5% of its shares to the new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. The initial allocation is subject to stockholder approval: the announcement does not mean cash has already been distributed.<\/p>\n
The fund could receive an additional 2% of shares for every 50% increase in the company's value above a set baseline. However, each additional allocation is at the board's discretion, and the specific valuation milestones will be disclosed later.<\/p>\n
The fund will be a wholly owned limited liability company rather than an independent 501(c)(3) charity. Anthropic lists donations to nonprofits and direct distributions to particular groups as possible uses.<\/p>\n
One stated concern is the potential for artificial intelligence to disrupt the labour market. This is a corporate commitment whose governance rules and actual results remain to be announced and assessed.<\/p>\n
