Students and teachers at Angel Karaliychev Secondary School in Strazhitsa marked National Enlighteners Day with a festive school programme and a torchlight procession. Local news outlet RegNews reported the event on 31 October, ahead of the official holiday.

The initiative brought the school community together to honour those who helped preserve the Bulgarian language, culture and education. The procession has already taken place as part of the celebrations; it is not an announcement of a future event.

The school is named after Angel Karaliychev, a writer whose work for children and adults remains part of Bulgaria's literary heritage. The National Enlighteners Day celebration in Strazhitsa therefore has a direct connection to the town's educational history.

Bulgaria celebrates National Enlighteners Day on 1 November. The holiday honours writers, religious leaders, teachers, revolutionaries and others whose contributions had a lasting impact on the country's education and culture.

The holiday is a chance for school communities to remember that respect for learning and shared history extends beyond official ceremonies. Local initiatives of this kind allow students to take an active role in the celebrations.
