This does not mean that all foods or the overall price index fell.

Prices move in different directions

According to the weekly report, the wholesale food price index, which measures wholesale food prices, increased by approximately 1.23% — from 2.360 to 2.389 points. Individual products moved in different directions. Courgettes were among the vegetables that became more expensive, rising by about 11.1% to approximately €1.12 per kilogram.

Weekly wholesale prices are not the same as prices on supermarket or neighbourhood shop shelves. Retail prices also reflect mark-ups, deliveries and local market conditions.

For consumers, the data offer an indication of trends, but any shopping comparison should use the actual prices at the store.
