A proposal for a new road bypassing the hazardous Prisovo bends near Veliko Tarnovo has been presented for public consultation. According to Borba newspaper, the project includes a new bridge over the Yantra River, a railway overpass and other infrastructure.

What is being proposed?

The proposed section is approximately 2.46 kilometres long, stretching from the Southern Road Junction towards Prisovo. The plans include a bridge over the Yantra River, crossings over the railway and a ravine, and an overpass towards the Cholakovtsi neighbourhood.

According to the report, the proposal is undergoing a procedure to determine whether an environmental impact assessment is required. It covers areas near Veliko Tarnovo, Debelets and Prisovo.

What happens next?

Residents and interested parties can review the investment proposal and submit comments or objections through the relevant procedure. This is a proposal, not construction already under way. No confirmed date for building the new route has been announced.

The Prisovo bends have long been a problematic stretch of road. A new route could change traffic on this important connection near Veliko Tarnovo, but implementation depends on further administrative and planning steps.
