The Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre in Veliko Tarnovo is preparing the Bulgarian premiere of the musical The Prince of Egypt. The performance is scheduled for 30 October 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in the main auditorium.
According to the theatre, nearly 120 costumes — for the soloists, choir and ballet — are being made. Asya Stoimenova is responsible for the set and costume design. The costumes and accessories are inspired by ancient Egypt while being adapted for the stage.
Stage design featuring 3D projections
The production features scenic structures, monumental figures and custom-designed 3D projection mapping by Lora Runevska. The visual effects will depict changing settings in the story, from the royal court to the desert and the Nile, the theatre says.
Petko Bonev directs the production and Gancho Ganchev conducts. The music is by Stephen Schwartz, with a book by Philip LaZebnik. The story explores the relationship between Moses and Ramses and the choice between personal loyalty, power and freedom.
First Bulgarian staging of the musical
According to the Konstantin Kisimov Theatre, it has obtained the rights to stage the musical from Music Theatre International. Preparation also included auditions with performers from Bulgaria and abroad. Audiences will hear the work in Bulgarian, translated by Liliya Boneva.
For any changes in the schedule or admission arrangements before the premiere, audiences should consult the official theatre channels.
