The Sofia-bound tube of Topli Dol tunnel on the Hemus motorway closes from the afternoon of 12 October as repair work continues. Traffic will run in both directions through the Varna-bound tube.
Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys. There is no diversion, and delays are possible at busy times.
Remaining repair work
Waterproofing and walkway construction remain to be completed in the Sofia-bound tube. Lighting, ventilation, video surveillance and a fire alarm system are also planned.
According to the Road Infrastructure Agency, cited by BNT and NOVA, both tubes are scheduled to reopen temporarily around 18 December for holiday traffic. Repairs will resume in January 2027, with work on the Sofia-bound tube expected to be completed in April 2027.
