Bulgaria’s Traffic Police are carrying out intensified checks on distracted driving as part of ROADPOL’s Focus on the Road campaign, running from 5 to 11 October 2026.

The Interior Ministry confirmed Bulgaria’s participation on 5 October. Officers will focus on conduct that distracts drivers and on unlawful use of mobile devices while driving.

What drivers need to know

Reading messages, choosing music and using apps can divert attention from changing traffic conditions. The ministry is urging drivers to put their phones aside and concentrate on the road.

As of 6 October, the campaign remains under way and will continue through 11 October. It is a road-safety enforcement initiative, not a notice of a specific road closure or traffic diversion in Veliko Tarnovo.

ROADPOL’s published 2026 operations plan also lists these dates for Focus on the Road, with an emphasis on mobile phones and other electronic devices that distract drivers.
