An exhibition dedicated to the spiritual heritage of the Rusenski Lom valley will open in Veliko Tarnovo on St Demetrius' Day, 26 October. It starts at 6:00 p.m. in the new Nadezhda exhibition hall at the Nadezhda 1869 community cultural centre, according to information from the organisers reported by RegNews.

Saints and rock monasteries shared by two neighbouring cultures

The exhibition, titled 'Saints of the Rusenski Lom Valley – Patrons of Two Orthodox Peoples', explores how the area's rock monasteries and religious centres connect with the history of Bulgaria and Romania.

Featured figures include Patriarch Joachim I, St Demetrius of Basarbovo, St Theodosius of Tarnovo, St Theophana Basarab and St Sophronius of Bulgaria. According to the Ruse Regional History Museum, the exhibition presents the river valley as an important medieval centre of religious life linked to Orthodox traditions on both sides of the Danube.

Where and when to see the exhibition

The exhibition was created by Dr Evgeni Georgiev, a curator at the Ruse Regional History Museum. Its presentation in Veliko Tarnovo was organised at the invitation of the local branch of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria and the museum in Ruse.

The opening takes place on 26 October at 6:00 p.m., and according to the announced programme, the exhibition can be visited until 17 November 2026. The exhibition coincides with local St Demetrius' Day celebrations and commemorations of the uprising led by Peter and Asen.
