MIT presented the IRIS research model on 15 October. It searches gene activity for traces of signals received by cells. According to the university’s release, the team trained it using human embryonic stem-cell data and tested it on cells from mouse embryos.

The research aims to help explain tissue development and improve laboratory organ models. It is a scientific tool, not a proven therapy. MIT cites a Nature Methods paper published on 8 September; its full text was unavailable during our editorial check.
