The first round of voting to select prosecutors' representatives on the next Supreme Judicial Council ended without any candidates being elected. None of the 25 candidates secured the necessary support from voting magistrates, Bulgarian National Radio reported in the early hours of October 25.
On October 24, 1,363 of the 1,567 eligible prosecutors cast their ballots. A total of 1,350 ballots were declared valid. A candidate needed at least 676 votes to be elected, but none reached the threshold.
Following the result, the election commission announced that voting would continue on October 25, with all candidates participating in another round. Voting was scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The election concerns the professional quota in the Prosecutorial Chamber of the next Supreme Judicial Council. Bulgaria is also holding presidential elections on the same day, but the two votes are separate processes governed by different rules.
At the time of writing, no final results from the subsequent vote had been announced. This report will be updated when results become available.
