Yovkovtsi Reservoir has been stocked with 680 kilograms of carp, regional news outlet RegNews reported on 27 October 2026. According to its report, the fish weighed between 200 and 300 grams each, and the autumn operation aims to replenish and maintain fish stocks in the reservoir.

Who took part in the operation

The stocking involved staff from the Veliko Tarnovo Fisheries and Control unit of Bulgaria's Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture, recreational anglers and representatives of fishing associations. Elena Municipality's deputy mayor Nikolay Davidkov also took part, according to RegNews.

Funding came from recreational fishing licence fees, donations and proceeds from an angling competition organised by Elena Municipality. Back in June, the municipal tourist information centre reported a fundraising drive for stocking the reservoir during a local fishing event.

A call to protect fish stocks

Participants stressed that protecting young fish is as important as releasing them into the reservoir. They urged anglers to release undersized fish and respect recreational fishing rules. This was a local effort to maintain fish populations, not an announcement of changes to the rules governing reservoir use.
