A yellow warning for heavy rain is in force for municipalities in Veliko Tarnovo Province on Tuesday, 13 October. The warning appears on the latest map issued by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology and is confirmed in the morning reports from BTA and NOVA.

The weather will remain cloudy and rainy throughout the day. In parts of central and eastern Bulgaria, rainfall will temporarily be intense and substantial. A moderate northerly wind will temporarily strengthen in the eastern half of the country. Maximum temperatures nationwide will mostly range from 10 to 15°C.

The mountains will be cloudy, windy and wet. Rain is expected below around 1,700 metres, with snow above that altitude. More substantial precipitation is also forecast for the Central Balkan Mountains.

The Veliko Tarnovo–Ruse road is open

The Road Infrastructure Agency announced at 03:59 that traffic on the I-5 Veliko Tarnovo–Ruse road had resumed in the Samovodene–Polikraishte section. Restrictions had been imposed after an overnight collision between two lorries.

Practical information

Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce their speed and increase their following distance on wet roads. Heavier rain may reduce visibility and cause water to collect in low-lying sections. Check the latest road conditions immediately before setting off.
