An awareness day dedicated to ankylosing spondylitis, also known as Bechterew's disease, will take place in Veliko Tarnovo on 31 October 2026 from 10:30. The venue is the Pensioners' and Disabled People's Club at 12 Vazrozhdenska Street. The event is organised by the Bulgarian Association of People with Bechterew's Disease in partnership with Veliko Tarnovo Municipality.
Programme: rheumatology, physiotherapy and audience questions
From 10:30 to 11:30, rheumatologist Dr Svilen Angelov will introduce the condition and take part in a discussion. From 11:30 to 12:30, physiotherapist Dr Daniela Manova will lead a discussion and practical session titled 'Always in Shape'.
An open question-and-answer discussion titled 'You Are Not Alone' will run from 12:30 to 13:00 for people affected by the condition and their relatives. Organisers say consultations will be free, admission is open and advance registration is not required.
Who may benefit from the event
Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect the spine and joints. Persistent back pain and morning stiffness are among the symptoms that specialists discuss. Having these symptoms does not in itself establish a diagnosis; assessment belongs to a medical professional.
The event is intended for people living with the condition, their families and members of the public who want to learn about early recognition of symptoms and treatment options. It does not replace an individual medical assessment.
