The long-unfinished hall in Building Five of the University of Veliko Tarnovo could be transformed into a multifunctional venue for conferences, business forums, exhibitions and cultural events. The university's rector, Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, presented the proposal to Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov and Member of Parliament Prof. Yanka Tyankova, the regional administration reported on October 30.
What is being proposed?
The proposal envisages completing the unfinished structure in central Veliko Tarnovo as a large-capacity facility. The university believes the city could host international academic conferences, corporate meetings, exhibitions, festivals and concerts — events for which the rector says the region currently lacks suitable indoor infrastructure.
The concept includes energy-efficient materials and smart building management systems. The roof could support solar panels to generate electricity for the venue. The projected benefits for tourism and hospitality are the proponents' estimates, not confirmed economic outcomes.
Support pledged, but when could work begin?
Marin Bogomilov and Prof. Yanka Tyankova have expressed willingness to help secure the institutional backing needed to advance the proposal. For now, this represents support for an investment proposal, not a decision to launch construction. The published announcement gives no secured budget, specific timetable or start date for the works.
