More than 11,000 school students took part in the 18th edition of the national Health Ambassadors competition. On 2 November, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Health announced that the initiative had concluded with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding projects and participants’ efforts.

Health as a student-led initiative

The competition encourages children and young people to turn what they have learned into practical activities. The projects cover exercise, sport, creativity, environmental protection, and physical and mental wellbeing. Teachers and parents also play an important role in the projects.

At the awards ceremony, Health Minister Katya Ivkova highlighted young people’s role in creating healthier environments. The event focused not only on the winners but also on ideas that students can put into practice at school and in their communities.

Cooperation among institutions

The initiative is supported by education, healthcare and youth organisations, including the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross, and the World Health Organization’s country office in Bulgaria. The ministry’s announcement does not give a new application deadline; this report concerns the edition that has just ended.
