Gastroenterology department upgraded with new endoscopy rooms at Veliko Tarnovo hospital

The gastroenterology department at Dr Stefan Cherkezov Regional Hospital in Veliko Tarnovo is now treating patients in extensively renovated premises with two new endoscopy rooms. Hospital management presented the upgraded facilities and equipment on 2 November, Bulgarian National Radio and local outlets reported.

Two endoscopy rooms and new equipment

One room is intended for standard endoscopic procedures, while the other allows examinations and interventions under X-ray guidance. The department has new endoscopes and an endoscopic ultrasound device for additional diagnostic procedures. According to the hospital, the equipment will allow more examinations and treatments to take place on site instead of referring patients to other facilities.

According to hospital director Dr Daniel Iliev, the total investment in renovation and medical equipment is nearly €600,000 from the hospital’s budget, with some purchases financed through a leasing arrangement. Local media report that approximately €500,000 of that amount was spent on equipment.

Medical staff and patient facilities

The renovated department has 30 beds and patient rooms with private bathrooms, according to Bolyarski Novini. Department head Dr Ilko Kosturkov introduced a team of four qualified specialists and two resident doctors. The doctors say the new equipment expands their ability to diagnose and treat digestive system conditions.

At the opening, doctors emphasised the importance of timely preventive care, particularly for people with a family history of relevant conditions. Which tests and follow-up are appropriate should be discussed with a treating physician based on individual risk factors.
