Trapezitsa, Prisovo bends, Northern Junction and tunnels: what was promised for Veliko Tarnovo
Following an October 27 meeting, officials outlined stages and projected deadlines for four infrastructure issues in Veliko Tarnovo. What comes next for Trapezitsa, the Prisovo bends, the Northern Junction and the tunnels?

Four long-standing infrastructure problems in Veliko Tarnovo were discussed at a meeting on October 27 between Mayor Daniel Panov, Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Regional Development Minister Ivan Shishkov. They concerned the landslide on Trapezitsa Hill, the Prisovo bends, the Northern Road Junction and the tunnels at the city's northern entrance.
Trapezitsa and two road projects
A public procurement procedure has been announced for the permanent stabilisation of the Trapezitsa landslide, with the selection of a contractor still pending. This is a preparatory stage, not confirmation that construction has already begun.
The Prisovo bends project is still at an early design stage. At the meeting, mid-2027 was indicated as a target for completing the design. A similar timeframe was given for the Northern Road Junction, which is intended to improve traffic flows into the city.
The Ruse-side tunnels and next deadlines
A major overhaul of the tunnels at the entrance to Veliko Tarnovo from the Ruse direction has been included in proposals for the 2027 budget. Inclusion in a budget proposal does not by itself mean that funding has been finally allocated or that a contractor has been selected.
Radev stated an intention to speed up the regional projects. Their implementation will depend on procurement procedures, designs, permits and funding. For residents, verifiable construction start dates and the safe use of existing roads remain the most important considerations.
