The container ship CONTSHIP JET, sailing under the Liberian flag, was struck in an attack involving three sea drones approximately 21 nautical miles off Shabla on October 28, 2026. Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov confirmed the incident during a meeting with his Romanian and Turkish counterparts in Sofia.
According to Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and maritime website Maritime.bg, the vessel was travelling from Haifa, Israel, to Constanța, Romania. Initial reports indicated that the crew evacuated onto life rafts. Damage to the starboard side was reported. Information about the vessel's condition and the consequences of the attack remains subject to further confirmation.
The defence ministers of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey condemned attacks on merchant vessels in the Black Sea and discussed strengthening information-sharing and early warnings of risks to shipping.
