Brazil’s presidential election will be decided in a runoff on 25 October between Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
With 99.8% of votes counted, Bolsonaro has just over 56 million votes and Lula around 53.7 million, the Associated Press reports, citing Brazil’s electoral court.
The result also matters internationally: Brazil is Latin America’s largest economy and plays an important role in global trade, Amazon policies, and relations with the United States and China.
